This course is designed by
EduTec expert team and totally customized to fit the Qatari workplace needs,
and more directly relevant to adult professionals to communicate more
effectively in their workplace.

Aims

To increase the student’s
comprehension of difficult texts, such as legal correspondence and contracts.
ü
To master the student’s
comprehension of spoken English when used in meetings, presentations and
discussions.
ü
To improve the student’s
ability to write business texts in English namely letters, memos and minutes
of meetings.
ü
To practice an analytical
approach to a student’s writing by looking critically on written assignments.
ü
To expand the student’s
vocabulary.
ü
To improve the student’s
ability to speak effectively in various business situations, e.g.
Negotiations and discussion between clients and colleagues.
ü
To familiarise the
student with various materials and practice selected tasks within areas of
interest.

To increase grammar
awareness.
Content
Speaking
In this section the student will
[ Develop the ability of monitoring their speech when presenting
business ideas.
[ Organise their presentations in a successful way, i.e.
effectively use professional English, skillfully control his/her speech
content and understand the use of body language.
[ Improve telephone skills.
[ Learn how to successfully lead business negotiations in
English.
Reading
This section will help the student
[ Increase reading comprehension by frequent exposure to
different texts.
[ Improve scanning and skimming of documents and letters.
[ Understand the general meaning if the text contains unknown
words or different terminology.
[ Practice pronunciation and intonation while doing reading
exercises through reading out loud short passages from a text book.
Listening
Here the student will be able to
[ Practise listening skills through a variety of listening tasks
in business.
[ Improve recognition and comprehension of different English
accents by listening to native speakers.
[ Learn how to grab the” gist” of a fast speech.
[ Practise effective note taking.
[ Improve the ability to jot down new words from a recording
played.
Writing
In this section the student will
[ Improve formal writing, i.e. business letters, corporate
emails, contract drafts, memos, etc by writing frequent assignments of
various types.
[ Summerise texts by learning how to make them formal or
informal, i.e. to gain ability to skillfully rewrite a given plain text into
plain English, formal or informal.
[ Practise correct spelling and punctuation by looking
critically at their writing or by various exercises on error correction.
[ Using proper collocations, synonyms and antonyms naturally and
effectively.
[ Practise coherence and learn how to avoid wordiness.
[ Learn the meaning of certain acronyms or Latin used in certain
areas of business.
